Tell me, have you ever thought that your leadership or business approaches barely touched the surface? That people weren’t really listening or understanding you? It may be that you just haven’t asked the question: who am I really?
Limitless Soul by Alexandra Terrey is a 241-page book on delving within to change what’s without.
But it’s not just about being a more abundant being; Limitless Soul’s content is founded on proven methods and I found it useful for reflection.
This book journeys inward into the essence of who we are, guiding us to understand ourselves. If we’ve got poor beliefs, it will aid in choosing positive beliefs – ones that allow growth into being an effectual leader.
Why Conscious Leadership is the Path to Live Truly Without Limits: A Book Review
You see, thinking and acting are two different things. Leaders who act with consciousness are apparent: their actions, values and words all align. That’s because, according to Alexandra, leadership reflects our inner thoughts, our beliefs and our self-belief. Becoming aware of what goes on inside, right down to the soul level, will help you journey towards living and leading with clarity and purpose.
One of my favourite parts:
“If you want to find out all about yourself and live your authentic self, with a deeper sense of purpose and alignment, you must take full responsibility of your own life, emotions, thoughts, decisions and actions.”
The CEB (cognitive, emotional, behavioural) Method chapter is all about exploring how our thoughts, attitude, beliefs, and emotions are running the show and how we can identify our beliefs and personal mission and vision. We are asked what we are aiming to achieve, and what success means to us.
Including the personal values descriptions was helpful because we all say we want to be more grateful, authentic, compassionate and take responsibility, but sometimes we may just be kidding ourselves! (Or is that just me?)
Whether we’re the manager or self-employed, setting goals without a specific intention is pointless. Deeply agree. Another highlighted quote:
“A goal without purpose and real emotional connection means nothing.”
Are you sitting on the sidelines of your own life?
Like most people, I’ve had my share of limiting beliefs. Feeling stuck. Listening to others’ poor opinions of me. Alexandra kindly guides the reader with questions to ask ourselves to understand our emotional reactions and to break out of our avoidance or reaction patterns. A deep breathing exercise is included, as is a deep discussion about the subconscious mind and positive thoughts.
There are other personal stories which provide insight into how tied up in knots a person can get when they believe the lies about themselves and their success… and then what has had to change for that person to find their area of passion and succeed at it.
A case study I found fascinating (p. 122) was about how two business partners had opposing paradigms about what was communicated, due to each’s limiting beliefs and self-doubts rather than their true intentions. The wrong conclusion they drew had led to a breakdown in communication, but with openness these beliefs and thoughts could be re-framed more positively. A potent lesson.
Whether intending leader or leader already, whether you’ve read one book on leading with consciousness/self-growth or twenty, I think you’ll find this soulful book by Alexandra Terrey has a message for you.
I was graciously gifted a copy of the book by the author, a local Brisbane coach. Ms Terrey is a qualified business and life coach and runs The Mentoring Effect. LinkedIn Profile: Alexandra Terrey.
