find book audience

Find your Book’s Ideal Audience

Many of us want to write a good quality book for the right audience… but what kind of audience is right for us? The truth is, if we can narrow down our audience and understand the depth of the pain problems and desires, then we can write a book that resonates deeply with them.I like to give some support on these areas and so have a brief video in the Book Creation Success course on competitive research. Independently, you can go along to Amazon and with ‘Amazon Suggest’ you can see what types of keywords people are typing in to find your area. You need to have a competitive overview of your marketplace and the key bestsellers in your niche. Then you can do some further research on BuzzSumo (free account, 10 searches) or SparkToro (free account) to get clearer on what…

ways to use email marketing for publishers

Ways to use Email Marketing – for Publishers

With a focus on those publishing multiple ebooks or books, here are my top tips for using email marketing to engage readers. I’ve heard from several authors that they don’t enjoy receiving emails so don’t send many, only one every few months. But the sending of regular information is critical to building up a happy list of readers, so don’t be shy… just mix it up! 1. Always use an Email Marketing System that’s EasyEmail marketing can easily get out of control with a manual system, like Outlook. To comply with anti-spam laws, unsubscribing must be easy. It is also useful to see open rates, click-through rates, and determine which content is the best performing. With most businesses choosing Mailchimp, a valid choice, my email marketing system is GetResponse – as it is just the most user-friendly and powerful for…

Kindle Select ebook publishing

Why Choose Kindle Select?

I have only one title able to enrol in Kindle Select, as with my own books I thought it best to go wide since Aussies love their iOS devices (iBooks), however, most new authors who have no platform to sell from yet are inclined to go for the narrower Kindle Select distribution option. Let’s look into why.About Kindle Select  (from Amazon KDP)When you choose to enrol your book in KDP Select, you’re committing to make the digital format of that book available exclusively through KDP. During the period of exclusivity (90 days), you cannot distribute your book digitally anywhere else, including on your website, iBooks, Google Play, etc. It is important that you heed the notices and act if you want to OPT OUT of the program after 90 days.  If you don’t want to renew, simply go to the…

one sheet - important doc

I Missed this Important Book Launch Document… Have you too?

When I launched Creative Ways with Money in February this year (best timing ever)… I had a long list of things to make: author book shot masses of social media images bookmark Creative Ways for Making Money bonus giveaway book web page, sales blurb, etc articles for blogging But, oops, I forgot the most important thing: a one sheet.  I did make a general media kit and rewrote my bio, so will forgive myself, but still… Why a One Sheet? For your book launch, a media sheet all about the book and wholesale information is crucial and is considered sales collateral. As this might go to the bookstore trade, it needs to contain: how many pages and if colour the blurb—why is it needed—and specifically what kind of reader it will appeal to? the genre or bookstore section? the cover image…

Selling eBooks and Media

Earn Money in Two Ways with eBooks

You can earn money through being an affiliate at the digital eBook aggregator stores and also from selling ebooks. You’ll find the best deals don’t always go through Amazon and I’m told Australians purchase 30% of their eBooks via Apple iBooks or other smaller online stores! Two large eBook aggregators are Draft2Digital and Smashwords. There is also Lulu. _____ Example of Draft2Digital Page Creative Ways with Money eBook https://books2read.com/u/3JVrzB It Pays to Partner!  I found that Draft2Digital is a little easier to get a Word file or an ePub through their wizard than Smashwords, so in 2017 I started switching my eBooks to that platform to release to B&N Nook, Kobo, Apple Books, Scribd, OverDrive, and optionally to Amazon, etc. You can also change things about your book sales page you don’t like (see below). Authors, please sign up to…

Advertise book using Amazon Ads

Should I Advertise My Book?

Should I advertise my book? is a common question, especially with the number of book launches today. Moreover, should I use Amazon Ads? In AuthorU, a LinkedIn group, I posed this question to expert in book publicity, Sandra Beckwith. Here’s what she replied to whether a newbie should use Amazon Ads: “Nobody — regardless of whether it’s their 1st or 10th book — should be buying ads until they have a lot of positive reader reviews. If it’s the former (authors doing it themselves), authors can manage their own advertising, but should learn how it works first. There are a lot of courses available that will help with that. Just as authors shouldn’t self-publish until they spend time learning how to do that, they shouldn’t spend on ads until they truly know what they’re doing. And…the books that will do…
