Earn Money in Two Ways with eBooks

You can earn money through being an affiliate at the digital eBook aggregator stores and also from selling ebooks. You’ll find the best deals don’t always go through Amazon and I’m told Australians purchase 30% of their eBooks via Apple iBooks or other smaller online stores!

Two large eBook aggregators are Draft2Digital and Smashwords. There is also Lulu.

It Pays to Partner!

I found that Draft2Digital is a little easier to get a Word file or an ePub through their wizard than Smashwords, so in 2017 I started switching my eBooks to that platform to release to B&N Nook, Kobo, Apple Books, Scribd, OverDrive, and optionally to Amazon, etc.

You can also change things about your book sales page you don’t like (see below).

Authors, please sign up to Draft2Digital and never pay anything to list your eBook. Don’t forget to fill out your tax information and claim the Australian tax treaty on earnings if you are not American based. (Otherwise withholding tax is a killer 30%).

You may list your books (at 60% royalty to premium iBooks and Kobo outlets) and also earn a small 10% commission on book sales for referring your own friends as well.

Draft2Digital – How To Beautify Your Book Page and Author Page

According to the makers, both the D2D Author Page and D2D Book Tabs (sales page) are designed with an ‘easy and enticing user experience in mind’.

D2D Book Tabs are a wide format page that anyone can visit your book without distraction. They give your readers a convenient place to find out everything they need to know to make the decision to buy and read your book.

Setting up your Author Page at Books2Read

In order to access the author pages, you will need to log in to books2read.com with your Draft2Digital account information (or set up a new account). Think of it as an extension to your Draft2Digital sales pages.

The Steps are:

Log in to your Books2Read account.

Click on Link Tools at the top of the page.

Click on UBL Dashboard

Click on the little square and up arrow icon next to your author name.

Books2Read Authors page

Enter Edit Mode — You’re now looking at the current version of your D2D Author Page. From here, you can click the Enter Edit Mode button in the green banner at the top of your screen, and start modifying, adding, and editing as you see fit. Any region of the page that has a green outline can be edited, and you can click SAVE CHANGES at any time to save your progress.

Note: When author page editing, click the word ‘TAG’ to change the book featured to the one you want featured!

Become a Smashwords Affiliate — No Need to be an Author

Smashwords affiliates receive 11 percent or more of all the net sales derived from the visitors they direct to Smashwords. The books of Smashwords authors and publishers are automatically enrolled in the affiliate program, and therefore are eligible for affiliate promotion. Authors may adjust the rates. The ones below are at the standard 11 percent – and you just have to share it to your socials or email list with your own link, once signed up.  (I don’t mind if you want to promote other books of your friends on there, just get started!)
